“I like to think of myself as a non-misogynsit mechanic” – Ron Baker
Prodigious, hard working and focused, Ron Baker has put his myriad of skills to work at NIMBY’s East Oakland Maker space since November of 2013. After seeing the possibilities of working out of a maker space through friends in Detroit and then Oakland, Ron decided to find a space of his own where he could work with his hands and finish a variety of projects.
Ron’s self-proclaimed role as “a non-mysoginsit mechanic” entails using his skills and detailed knowledge in auto mechanics to help others understand the inner workings of vehicles and to help people from being taken advantage of when seeking car repair. Always one to help a friend, Ron’s current auto project involves helping a disabled vet get his car back on the road.
In addition to auto work, Ron is a trained carpenter and wood worker with an extensive background in video production, lighting and set design.
In 2014, Ron collaborated with UK artist Deb Davies on the construction of Starway for Burning Man and assisted the Pangaea Project with repairs to their art car. He hope’s to continue being an asset to the NIMBY based art camps in 2015 and re-design and improve upon the communal recreational, bar space at NIMBY.
Ron is available for house calls, phone calls and booty calls.
